Stanley Parker Gamwell

Parker Gamwell was born Stanley Parker Gamwell Jr. on November 2, 1920.  Parker was born in Philadelphia, PA and grew up in Woodcrest, New Jersey.  He began his work in the ministry at a young age.  At the age of nineteen, he began pastoring the little Presbyterian church he was a part of in Woodcrest.  He also attended and completed a missionary training course in Philadelphia, along with his first love, Lois Deane.  He then attended and graduated from Columbia Bible College, in Columbia, S.C. while Lois attended and graduated from nursing school in New York City.  They married shortly thereafter, before he joined the U.S. Army.  After serving his time in the military in Germany during WWII, he returned to pastoring.  In 1950, Parker and Lois answered the call to missions, packing up and moving to Mexico City with their three children.

Two years later, In the fall of 1952 Parker began “La Luz Spanish Gospel Tapes” ministry and the family moved to Chihuahua City, where Parker ministered there and in towns and villages throughout the area. In late 1953, now a family of six, they moved into the Sierra Madre mountains of Chihuahua, Mexico to work with the native Tarahuamara.  Their work was primarily in the villages reachable by vehicles, but many villages had no roads to enter, so they made their own road or simply walked.  Although the indigenous spoke primarily Raramuri, some also spoke Spanish, which made it possible to communicate with them.  During that time, Bibles were difficult to acquire and the people were poorly literate.  So, Parker seeing the need, wrote his first book, "God’s Plan", with the intention of giving it away to everyone and anyone he could. “God’s Plan” is a compressed view of Scripture, explaining God’s purpose for our existence and His plan for our redemption.

Parker continued to work in the mountains of Mexico for seventy years, sharing the Gospel and planting Churches, while raising eight children.  He has since written other books.  His latest being, “God is Coming Again”, which he wrote and published at the age of ninety seven.  He is now one hundred and one and his first book “God’s Plan” has been translated into fifteen different languages and is being distributed in many different countries.  Mr. Gamwell’s hope and prayer is still, that many will read it and gain the understanding and desire to know God and receive His son Jesus to be their Lord and Savior and gain eternal life.
